July - The Month of The Most Precious Blood of Jesus

July falls in the second segment (from Pentecost Monday to the First Sunday of Advent) of Ordinary Time and is represented by the liturgical color green.

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time - July 4

Coworkers in Ministry - Admonishing that "the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few,"  Jesus does not limit his ministry to himself alone.  He enlists the assistance of followers, reminding them that ministry is serious business and the demands will be great.  No one should be naive about this.  Radical simplicity will be the order of the day.  The more one has, the more one needs.  Therefore, Jesus mandates that the missionaries take nothing with them.  Essentials will somehow be provided--for them and for us.  Anchored in that trust, let us leave behind every superfluity to labor for the kingdom.  What are the "money bags" and "sacks" that distract us?    --Eugene Hensell, OSB 2004, 2009,OCP.

15th Sunday in Ordinary Time - July 11

Love of Neighbor - The Lord Jesus presents wholehearted love of God and neighbor as the key to eternal life.  It is not a law beyond us but is "in our mouth and in our heart for our observance."  In the almost too familiar story of the good Samaritan, the priest and the Levite pass by and the foreigner does the healing work.  "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us"  is partially explained here.  Our neighbors tie us to the cross of the Christ by which we are saved and raised up.  It is an exacting joy! - Philip J. Sandstrom, STD 2000, OCP.

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever."  -  Hebrews 13:8
